Ok first, let’s get to what the heck dermaplaning is! Dermaplaning is a “cosmetic procedure” that removes the top layer of your skin where peach-fuzz and dirt sit. I know it sounds kind of weird, but the results are AMAZING! Doing this at home with a razor, and dermaplaning however, are VERY different! I’m going to tell y’all exactly what those differences are AND answer some of the commonly asked questions I get from you guys.
FOR MY LOCAL GALS OR ANYONE VISITING THE KC AREA, BARE MED SPA IS THE BOMB!! I’ve been going to them since February and LOVE them. Mention my name for a discount!
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE??
I started using at-home razors over a year ago after seeing the craze all over social media. I’ve used both handheld “throw-away” razors off of Amazon, and a more “professional tool” like an electric razor. I saw better results with the more advanced tools, BUT it wasn’t until I got my first REAL DERMAPLANE at a medical spa that I saw actual sustainable results!
So what’s reallyyy the difference? The biggest differences are 1. THE TOOLS USED, 2. HOW LONG IT LASTS, AND 3. RESULTS IN SKIN TEXTURE. I knew that a professional service would obviously be better than what I could do, but I didn’t realize HOW MUCH BETTER!!
DERMAPLANING
- Tool used: surgical razor.
- Results: removal of peach fuzz and dirt, exfoliated and smoother skin.
- How longs it lasts: a month OR MORE.
- Other differences: better precision, more areas are covered/removed, less likely to cut or nick the skin.
AT-HOME RAZORS
- Tool used: store bought razor.
- Results: removal of peach fuzz.
- How long it lasts: about 2-3 weeks.
- Other differences: more likely to cut yourself, not all angles and areas can be covered, not all hair follicles are fully removed.
RESULTS FROM MY FIRST DERMAPLANE:
1.SURGICAL RAZOR
During a professional dermaplane service they use a surgical razor. This allows them to get even closer to the hair follicles and completely remove the hairs instead of scratching the surface. They’re also able to get rid of all the dirt and grime that’s under your skin, which you can see in my after photo!
2.LONGER LASTING RESULTS
With my at-home razors I would notice hair growth back within a couple weeks, compared to my professional dermaplane where I started noticing growth back at least a month if not more later!
3.DIFFERNCE IN SKIN TEXTURE
As I mentioned before, with a dermaplane, you’re exfoliating so you’re getting all of those dead skin cells off as well. When an esthetician is doing it for you they’re able to get into those nooks that you can’t reach on your own and they can see areas way better than you can. I was never able to get around my nose, eyes, or chin in fear that I was going to cut myself at home!
FACT OR MYTH?
Now let’s answer some of YOUR QUESTIONS and see if they’re FACT or MYTH…
The hair grows back thicker and darker…MYTH
This is the most common one I hear, and I actually thought the same thing before I started!! If you have dark or light hair, it all comes back completely normal. Not darker, not thicker, and still not very noticeable to the naked eye! With my at-home razors, I would notice hair growth a couple of weeks later. With a professional dermaplane I’ve noticed growth back over a month or more after!
“A razor on my face?? That has to hurt”…MYTH
Especially if you do it at a med-spa!! I noticed when I used my disposable razors at home it was much easier to accidentally cut myself or have a mishap. When I go to my esthetician at Bare Med Spa, it’s absolutely painless even with a surgical blade!
“I CAN SAVE SO MUCH MORE MONEY AT HOME THOUGH”…FACT
Yes, you CAN save more money buying $8 razors off Amazon, BUT, at a med spa, you’re paying more for BETTER results! It’s like making a frozen meal at home. Yes, it tastes ok and only costs you $5, but it’s so much better fresh at a restaurant. At Bare Med Spa a dermaplane costs around $100!
