Does anybody else feel like they can’t live without lotion during the winter?! I am constantly reapplying because my skin gets sooo dry!! The second the temperatures dropped below 60 I swear my skin instantly changed! During fall and winter, my skincare routine has to be top-notch to keep up with the weather change. Daily face masks, and moisturizers on moisturizers!! Here are a few tips on how to keep your skin looking healthy and flawless during winter:
1.Exfoliate
Sounds crazy but you do have to make sure you exfoliate often (but not a ton). Two times a week is recommended but I use a very light exfoliator every morning before I put my makeup on so my face is nice and smooth. Since your skin gets so dry you have to make sure you’re getting the dead skin off. Exfoliating helps your skincare products absorb so much better too! DO exfoliate, DON’T use any harsh exfoliators or buffers! You don’t need a harsh scrubber in the shower or rough cloth to exfoliate, just use your hands and be very gentle but work into those trouble areas. Use products that are for everyday use so you know they’re not super harsh, and I always recommend using dermatologist-tested products.
I love these light scrubs from Hello Body- Coco Glam Pink Scrub, Aloe Vibe Softening Body Scrub

2. Moisturize
This is an obvious one, but also the most important! It’s even more important to use the right kind. It totally depends on your skin type. I have very acne-prone skin so you oily face gals this one is for you! I use an oil control dermatologist recommended moisturizer in the morning and a “moisture bomb” night-time repair lotion before bed. After you wash your face or get out of the shower your skin is going to be super dry so it’s important that the products you use are long-lasting and really moisturizing for your thirsty skin (heavy lotions don’t mean they work better!).

3. Change up your body and face lotion
If you’ve been using the same lotions for years it’s time to change them up! Not that you have to throw them away completely, but it’s like your shampoo and conditioner, your skin gets used to the product and it doesn’t work as effectively! I have different lotions for each season; lighter for spring and summer, heavier (or more moisturizing) for fall and winter!
4. Face masks
During fall and winter I am doing face masks almost daily. I break out a lot more and heavily when it starts to get cold out, so if you’re like me I recommend using acne controlling or charcoal masks to dry out your pores and get rid of the dirt and bacteria under your skin. I also use moisturizing masks a couple of times a week to keep my skin super hydrated with all of the different products I’m using!
5. Take colder showers…yes you read that right.
Why in the world would you want to make yourself cold when it’s already like the North Pole outside? Well, it keeps your skin from drying out even more than it already is. Scorching hot showers are already not great for your skin but when you take them in the winter it’s even worse. Make that shower short and cold(er) than normal!
